Visa restrictions extended to 03/31/2021

On December 31, 2020, the White House extended its “Proclamation on Suspension of Entry of Immigrants and Nonimmigrants Who Continue to Present a Risk to the United States Labor Market” until March 31, 2021. This Proclamation, which has been in effect since April 2020, restricts the issuance of visas at Consulates abroad in several non-immigrant and immigrant categories. Several of my clients and countless people around the world have been affected by this ban, and those of us who hoped the restrictions be allowed to expire on December 31 are going to have to wait for another few months. Since the purpose of this Proclamation wad not actually to slow the spread of COVID, but just to limit immigration for an extended period of time, it is quite likely that the Biden administration will let this Proclamation expire in March, regardless of the COVID situation at that time.
