Yesterday, the White House issued “A Proclamation on Revoking Proclamation 10014,” which was the previous administration’s effort to restrict immigrant visas on the pretense that they pose a risk to the US labor market in a time of economic recovery following the COVID outbreak. This revocation is good news for many people who have been waiting for nearly a year for their immigrant visas to be processed in US Consulates abroad. The Proclamation instructs the DHS, DOS, and DOL to issue revised guidance consistent with this Proclamation. These guidelines should be issued soon, and we hope that the US Consulates will have the capacity to quickly manage the backlog of cases created by last year’s immigration ban.
